1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photocopy of a photograph of members of ?C? Company who had 1st World War service. This photograph was taken in India during the 1920s and is named. Captain K P Smith served in the 2nd/4th Battalion during the 1st World War and during the 2nd World War commanded the troops on the Island of Malta during the Siege. During the Normandy Landings he commanded 185 Brigade. He later wrote a book of his Army life called ?Adventures of an Ancient Warrior?.

These men were responsible for assisting many men from the 66th Regiment during the retreat from Maiwand. From left to right, they are Trumpeter Jones, Gunner Collis VC, Sergeant Major W. Paton, Sergeant Burridge, Corporal Thorogood, Gunner Tighe, Driver Bishop, Bombardier Payne, Sergeant P. Mullane VC.
