1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A black and white photograph showing soldiers from ?D? Company in 1979, removing part of a barricade in William Street, Londonderry. They are wearing the helmets introduced in 1975; these were the new glass fibre reinforced plastic type which gave greater protection and stability. The soldier in the background, carrying the Self Loading Rifle, has the new helmet with visor attached. Private Mark Reading (right of the photo without his helmet) is helping to remove the barricade.
