1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A black and white photograph of the presentation of skins to the Battalion. In December 1962, the Regiment embarked on HMT Oxfordshire at Southampton for Malta where it was to spend the next three years. Before leaving a set of tiger and panther skins for the Corps of Drums was presented by the High Commissioner for India. This gift was in recognition of The Royal Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments? past connection with India. The initial approach was made by ex-RSM Hodges, the regiment?s first Regimental Sergeant Major. Here we see the High Commissioner with the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General. Coad, on board the Oxfordshire, prior to departure, inspecting the drummers wearing the new skins .
