99th Regiment - A sepia portrait photograph of Captain Charles Burton. He joined the Regiment in 1855 and he took part in the China Campaign of 1860. After the campaign he was sent with his company from Hong Kong to Shanghai where they fought the Taiping rebels in the assault on the rebel camp at Tserpoo on the 17th April 1862. He retired in 1869. Wiltshire Home Guard - A sepia (faded) photograph taken in the garden of 11 Laineys Close, Marlbourgh in July 1942. On the left is Private Walter Burt Cook, aged 51, of the Marlbourgh Company. He joined the local defence volunteers in June 1940. On the right is Warrant Officer William May of the Royal Navy, and the child at the front is an evacuee from Portsmouth who lived with Mr and Mrs Cook from June 1940 to July 1942. Private Cook had previous military service in the Royal Flying Corps in the 1st World War.
