1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A black and white photograph of ?B? Company's Anti Tank section in a Canadian jeep with a 106-mm recoiless rifle in Canada on exercise in 1961 with, from left to right, Privates Bowles, Sear, Hatt and L/Corporal Wright. At the time, each rifle company had support weapons such as mortars and anti tank guns attached. This was changed when the Battalion went to West Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) in 1965 when the Support Company was formed. [The Battalion had the loan of two of these weapons from the Canadian Army while they were in Canada].

1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photograph showing regular soldiers of the Battalion, in the trenches in 1915. The officer seated right is Captain Alan John Bowles, who served initially in the 1st Bn, and later in the 2nd Battalion where he was killed in action on the 10th April 1916. He is buried at Becourt Military Cemetery. The soldier facing (Centre) is carrying an extra bandolier of 50 rounds of ammunition in addition to what he would have been carrying in his webbing. This appears to be a part of a quiet sector, otherwise the soldier looking over the parapet would have soon come to the attention of a German sniper.
