2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A copy of a letter written by Boy 5333246 John Charles Harvey, believed to his brother Walt from Salamanca Barracks, Aldershot about 1928. He was killed in action during the retreat to Dunkirk on the 16th May 1940. A family story is that he as killed by a hand grenade while carrying a wounded soldier on a stretcher. He was given a quick burial in a nearby hedgerow, and his body was never recovered. He was posted as missing believed killed. [In infantry battalions bandsmen in war are employed as stretcher bearers]
