1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A postcard from the International Red Cross from Geneva, dated 17.6.1940 to Mrs Joyner, 10 Brockhurst Road, Chesham, Bucks informing her that they had received a card dated 10.6.1940 from Private 5339502 Henry Joyner that he was a POW in Stalag XXA ? Germany. [Stalag XX-A was a Camp located in Thorn/Torun, Poland. It was not a single camp and contained as many as 20,000 men at its peak. The main camp was located in a complexx of fifteen forts that surrounded the whole of the city. The forts had been built by Prussians at the end of 19th century to defend the western border of Prussia. In the early part of the war it was called camp 357. Private Joyner would have been one of 4.500 soldiers captured after Dunkirk who ended up at this camp ? One famous inmate was the British Actor Sam Kydd]
