He fought with the Regiment in the Zulu Campaign in Natal. He re-enlisted on the 13th August 1914 being issued with the number 18207, and was discharged on the 30th March 1918.

Parker, who enlisted in August 1899; after service in Ireland, he proceeded to St. Helena to guard prisoners of war (attached to 3rd Militia Battalion). Later he joined 2nd Battalion in South Africa and took part in operations in the Northern Transvaal. There is also a letter sent from a secretary of the Regimental Museum to Major W. C. Hawkins dated 24th April 1967 enclosing the document mentioned above.
