1st Bn, Wiltshire Regiment - A Box containing a pipe, four packets of Wild Woodbine Cigarettes (WD & HO Wills of Bristol and London) and an unused tin of Mild Strength Capstan Navy Cut tobacco. Each of these boxes were presented to wounded soldiers who were ferried back to England on the ship HM Hospital Ship Carisbrook Castle? The box lid reads ?With the compliments of the Union Castle line and their best wishes for your speedy recovery? Owen Philips, Chairman. This box was presented to Private 11233 Robert Leach who has been wounded in 1915. He later died of wounds on the 16th October 1916 having been wounded a second time. He was the son of George Were Leach and Mary Julia Leach, of 37, Landor Rd., Stockwell, London. He is buried in Contay British Cemetery, Contay.
