SBYRW : 33476

1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photograph showing the mobilization of the Battalion which took place between the 4th and the 8th August 1914 at Mandora Barracks, Aldershot. The mobilization was part of a previously practiced exercise and by all accounts went very smoothly. As well as getting the men and kit ready, the Battalion had to absorb a significant number of reservists. This image shows the transport horses with the RTO (Regimental transport officer) at Farnborough railway station loading up en-route to Southampton 12th August 1914 [ The RTO is believed to be Lieutenant Hanbury-Sparrow who, according to his memoirs in ?The Land Locked Lake?, would rather have been in a rifle company at this time]

Person(s): Graham, M D, Colonel, Hanbury-Sparrow, , Lieutenant,
